Lucha Underground Season 2 Trailer! SPOILER-FREE Analysis + 40 Images!
It’s no secret. I’m a huge fan of Lucha Underground. I think it’s the best professional wrestling product on television. Production on Season 2 is well underway in Boyle Heights, California. Honestly, I try my best to ignore it. You can find spoilers online if you want them, but you won’t find any here. When it comes to Lucha Underground Season 2, I’m living by a simple motto.
So, read on without fear. There are no spoilers for Lucha Underground Season 2 in this column. What you will find is a painstaking and obsessive analysis of the first trailer which was released Saturday. It’s out there for all to see. Take a look for yourself.
Now, let’s break this thing down like it’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and see what we can learn.
Who likes candles? We all do! Anyway, this is your opening shot. It looks like our champion Mil Muertes is having a moment by himself.
Well. It didn’t take long for this to get interesting. Our old friend Vampiro is seen sitting at a table, apparently being recorded. I see some white lab coats. Did someone send him to a mental hospital? Did he go willingly?
The last time we saw Sexy Star was during the final moments of Ultima Lucha. She had been kidnapped by Marty The Moth, who promised to introduce her to his sister. It doesn’t look like Sexy is interested in staying long enough to meet her.
Back to Vampiro. He’s in the middle of nowhere to reveal…A NEW CAR! Who’s the guy with him?
You gotta love how Lucha Underground is raising to level of danger in Season 2. We see at least two armed men in this trailer. In this shot, someone has his sight set on…someone.
Here’s a woman walking away from us. Who is she? Where is this? It doesn’t look like the exterior of The Temple.
Here are some familiar faces. Our favorite dysfunctional trios team returns to The Temple as stylishly as they departed at the end of Ultima Lucha. Angelico looks like he’s ready to audition for the role of Captain Lucha Underground.
Fenix has also returned to The Temple. Sadly, no sign of the Firebird.
This is an interesting shot. We get a brief glimpse of a man sitting at a table. He’s clearly in handcuffs and wearing a prison jumpsuit. He looks an awful lot like Mr. Cisco. Did someone finally notice Bael hasn’t been around for a while?
Here’s our first look at the lovely Catrina. We already know she begins Season 2 as the new proprietor at The Temple. That secret has been out for about a month.
Back to the action! Johnny Mundo! He’s doing flipping flying spinning things and practicing the martial art known as Wing Chun on a wooden practice dummy.
This setting looks familiar. The bathroom – er, locker room inside The Temple. It appears Drago has started a nunchaku club, and the members include P.J. Black. Looks like that’ll be his name on Lucha Underground. He’s even wearing a “Darewolf” t-shirt. It looks like Jack Evans is there too.
We step away from The Temple to watch an armed man apparently killing a few folks out in the middle of nowhere. This does not look like the guy behind the rifle scope earlier in this trailer. I wanted to say this could be Killshot, but (no offense to Shane Strickland) this guy looks a little too big to be him. (UPDATE: This scene definitely has something to do with Killshot) Also, this setting looks similar to where Vampiro unveiled the car earlier in the trailer. Could this all be connected?
Back to The Temple. Catrina and Mil Muertes are walking! You should be running!
It appears someone got the drop on Texano.Who is that guy in the mask?
Prince Puma! Pentagon Jr.! It looks like the fight is on at The Temple. This does not appear to be a match. Puma is wearing gym shorts and sneakers.
It looks like Aero Star has upgraded to his Mark II armor for Season 2.
One more shot of Pentagon Jr. because he’s awesome.
This is one of the more fascinating shots in the trailer. There’s a strobe-like effect as we catch a few glimpses of multiple people dressed as Pentagon Jr. What makes this even more interesting is that no two are wearing the exact same outfit. At least one appears to match the Pentagon we see elsewhere in the trailer. Does he have some new allies? Are these his followers? Are we going to see the entire Pentagon family tree?
Black Lotus! Who is she talking to?
Johnny Mundo’s sunglasses! Look closely at the reflection. You’ll see he’s looking at Prince Puma.
More Prince Puma. He puts his fist through a punching bag because no one on this show is allowed to have anything less than super powers.
Dario Cueto! He still has the key Matanza’s cage, even though he took his monstrous brother out for a road trip at the end of Ultima Lucha.
Finally, we get our Han Solo and Chewbacca moment in this trailer. Rey Mysterio! He doesn’t say a word, but you can probably assume he’s going to be playing a big role in Season 2. Lucha Underground finally has the Latino superstar it’s coveted since day one. The second season premieres on El Rey Network on Wednesday, January 27 at 8pm ET/PT.
