Can you believe we’re about to enjoy the fifth year of Mayhem Mania? Our little competitive thought experiment started out as just an idea. Over the years, it’s grown into a tradition on the Wrestling Mayhem Show. There have been a lot of matches created over the years – some more plausible than others. Among them are a select few that later happened in real life. Here are six of the most notable. To be clear, we’re only looking at matches that graduated to a Mayhem Mania SUPERCARD.

Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose

Remember when this was THE dream match in WWE? It was Mad Mike who made this match when he added Roman Reigns to an existing Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins match during the final round of the inaugural Mayhem Mania back in 2015.

More than a year after we made this match, it finally happened in real life. It was the main event of Battleground on July 24, 2016.

Ambrose won the match to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. It may be the biggest win of Ambrose’s career, and it had a big impact on WWE. The result made the title he held exclusive to SmackDown Live, as the latest brand extension was underway. That necessitated the creation of the WWE Universal Championship on Raw.

Bray Wyatt vs. Finn Balor

This match was made in Mayhem Mania, not once – but twice! BobbyFJtown created it during the inaugural Mayhem Mania in 2015. After two years of waiting and STILL not getting this dream match (which, to be honest, was really only desired for the entrances), Bobby made the same match AGAIN during the 2017 edition of Mayhem Mania.

I guess WWE finally got the message, because not long after we made the match in 2017, we finally got it in real life. It happened at SummerSlam on August 20, 2017, and we got a ballin’ entrance from Finn.

There was a match too, which Finn won because NO ONE beats The Demon at SummerSlam.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. A.J. Styles

Here’s another match that was made twice in Mayhem Mania. Styles and Nakamura were pitted against one another in back-to-back years. In 2016 (before Nakamura had stepped foot inside a WWE ring), BobbyFJtown made the match. The following year, Thee Rizz stepped up and made it again.

EVERYONE knew this was a “dream match” in WWE, and it was rightly saved for a huge stage. Styles and Nakamura finally met at WrestleMania 34 on April 8, 2018.

Unfortunately, the long-awaited first meeting in WWE between Styles and Nakamura failed to live up to the astronomical hype, but we did get a spectacular entrance and a memorable heel turn out of Nakamura. So, I guess it wasn’t all bad.

Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka

We’ve spent a lot of time in Mayhem Mania tripping over one another in pursuit of the ultimate match involving WWE’s growing roster of talented women. This may be the peak of those efforts. Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka. Once again, it was BobbyFJtown making another terrific match for Mayhem Mania in 2017. Of course, he also had to up the ante by making it a ladder match during the Patreon In The Bank round.

We had to wait for more than a year, but the showdown finally went down at WrestleMania 34 on April 8, 2018.

Charlotte successfully defended her SmackDown Live Women’s Championship and snapped Asuka’s WWE winning streak. Asuka’s many fans were disappointed, but this match was awesome.

The Shield vs. The New Day

First, that right there is an ALL-TIME Mayhem Mania graphic by our friend Antonio Garza from @TheWRevolution.

I had strong feelings about this match when it was made. I thought it was a waste of the members of The Shield. That didn’t matter in the end. Mad Mike created this match and it cruised onto the SUPERCARD during the 2017 edition of Mayhem Mania.

I didn’t think this match would ever happen in real life, but it did. The two teams met at Survivor Series on November 19, 2017.

The Shield prevailed, despite the impossibly ugly half-Raw, half-Shield shirts worn by Rollins and Ambrose. How did Roman get out of wearing one?

Brock Lesnar vs. Samoa Joe

This gem of a match was created by a Mayhem Mania rookie, International Wrestling Cartel color commentator J. Worthington Farnsworth. What a debut!

We didn’t have to wait very long to see it happen in real life. Lesnar and Joe clashed heading into Great Balls Of Fire on July 9, 2017.

The buildup was awesome, but the match itself was a bit of a letdown, as Lesnar successfully fought off the challenge from Joe.

 Who knows what we’ll come up with next in Mayhem Mania, but judging by our past history, there’s a good chance at least one of this year’s matches will happen in real life someday.
