Our Favorite Matches Of The Pandemic Era

July 2021 is a big month for professional wrestling. WWE and AEW are returning to live touring. Impact Wrestling and Ring Of Honor are welcoming back live fans for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Somehow, professional wrestling survived more than a year of uncertainty, lockdowns and empty arenas.

The Wrestling Mayhem Show wanted to celebrate the wrestlers and the other creative minds who helped us get through the past year and a half. Here are some favorite matches of our hosts, guests and listeners from the “Pandemic Era” – the period of time that began in the middle of March 2020 and stretched into July 2021.

Mayhem Mania 2021: Round 9

It must be Mayhem Mania season!

Every year, we bring together fans, wrestlers and other folks. Our goal is to construct the BEST WrestleMania card that’s currently possible. Everyone under a WWE contract is eligible to use, as are those who are within the orbit of WWE’s influence. If Vince McMahon can do it, we can do it!

If you’re just tuning in, here’s how we got to this point.
Mayhem Mania 2021 – Opening Round
Mayhem Mania 2021 – Round 1
Mayhem Mania 2021 – Round 2
Mayhem Mania 2021 – Round 3
Mayhem Mania 2021 – Round 4
Mayhem Mania 2021 – Round 5
Mayhem Mania 2021 – Round 6
Mayhem Mania 2021 – Round 7
Mayhem Mania 2021 – Round 8

There are two “tiers” to Mayhem Mania. The 8-match “undercard”, where our players create and make changes to matches, and the SUPERCARD. To reach the SUPERCARD, a match must survive three rounds on the “undercard” without being altered in any way. So far, only one match has made it.

MAYHEM MANIA 2021 SUPERCARD

Raquel Gonzalez vs. Beth Phoenix
(Created by Tina Keys)

That’s a pretty darn good match, but we still have a lot of work to do.

Not everyone is eligible to use in Mayhem Mania. They must be under a WWE contract or otherwise within WWE’s orbit of influence. Also, everyone comes in their current physical/contractual/etc. state (We are ignoring COVID-19 diagnoses because this is supposed to be a fun diversion, not a reminder of the terrible things happening around us.). Simply put, if Vince McMahon can’t do it, you can’t do it!

Other wrestlers are not eligible to use because one of our players has sent them to SPACE JAIL.

* “Cell numbers” correspond with the numbers on our prize wheel.

Every week we spin our prize wheel to give one of the SPACE JAIL inmates a chance to escape. Thankfully, SPACE JAIL remained secure this week.

5 players were invited onto the Wrestling Mayhem Show for the latest round of Mayhem Mania 2021. Each can make ONE of the following changes to our card:

– SWAP one wrestler or team with one in another match on the card or replace them with a wrestler or team not currently on the card
– ADD a wrestler or team to an existing match
– DELETE a match in its entirety and replace it with a new match using entirely new wrestlers
– SUBTRACT an individual from an exisiting match.
– MATCH SWAP: This year, we have a designated “cinematic match” slot on our card. A player can choose to swap an existing match on the card for the match currently in that “cinematic match” slot.

With all that business out of the way, here’s how things went down during Round 9 of Mayhem Mania.

Move #1 (by Brandon)
DELETE Drew McIntyre vs. Adam Cole and CREATE Kevin Owens vs. Matt Martel

Move #2 (by Tina Keys)

Brandon’s match did not survive the round. However, because next week is the Patreon In The Bank round, the “Alex Kahrs Rule” is not in effect. Sorry, Brandon.

Patreon In The Bank is the grand finale of Mayhem Mania 2021. ONLY Patreon supporters of the Wrestling Mayhem Show will be invited to play during that round, and somehow they must find a way to get seven more matches onto our SUPER CARD.

If you want to play, head to patreon.com/wrestlingmayhemshow. Your support will help the show and get you in on the fun.

Mayhem Mania 2021: Round 6

It must be Mayhem Mania season!

Every year, we bring together fans, wrestlers and other folks. Our goal is to construct the BEST WrestleMania card that’s currently possible. Everyone under a WWE contract is eligible to use, as are those who are within the orbit of WWE’s influence. If Vince McMahon can do it, we can do it!

If you’re just tuning in, here’s how we got to this point.

Mayhem Mania 2021 – Round 1
Mayhem Mania 2021 – Round 2
Mayhem Mania 2021 – Round 3
Mayhem Mania 2021 – Round 4
Mayhem Mania 2021 – Round 5

There are two “tiers” to Mayhem Mania. The 8-match “undercard”, where our players create and make changes to matches, and the SUPERCARD. To reach the SUPERCARD, a match must survive three rounds on the “undercard” without being altered in any way. So far, only one match has made it.

Mayhem Mania 2021 SUPERCARD

That’s a pretty darn good match, but we still have a lot of work to do.

When a match graduates, its creator gets REWARDS! So, before Round 6 we had some business to take care of Tina.

First, she got to create a new match to fill the opening on our “undercard” left by the match that graduated. Tina created Big E vs. Bronson Reed.

Second, Tina got to book the first guest for the first-ever Mayhem Mania Watch Along! Tina decided to book Faye Jackson! Great choice!

Third, Tina got a ticket to send one individual to SPACE JAIL! Tina decided to send Asuka – by far, the most popular woman in the history of Mayhem Mania – to SPACE JAIL!

* “Cell numbers” correspond with the numbers on our prize wheel.

Tina said our players need to be challenged, and I really couldn’t agree more. Remember, hurt feelings are a key component of this process.

Anyone who is stuck in SPACE JAIL can NOT be booked in a match in Mayhem Mania. They can escape via a lucky spin of our prize wheel.

Under the rules of Mayhem Mania, everyone comes in their current physical, emotional and contractual state. That means anyone out with an injury is NOT eligible to use. (We are ignoring COVID-19 diagnoses because this is supposed to be a fun diversion, not a reminder of the terrible things happening around us.)

Finally, as part of her rewards for creating a graduated match, Tina got to hand out a dose of “punishment” to one of this week’s players. The “punishment” was that the player would have to use an individual randomly chosen for them by the “Wheel Of NXT UK”. Tina chose to punish The Rizz.

With all that business out of the way, let’s take a look at the changes made during Round SIX of Mayhem Mania 2021!

Move #1 (by Brandon)
ADD Damien Priest to Finn Balor vs. Aleister Black vs. Karrion Kross

Move #2 (by Mad Mike)
SWAP Roman Reigns and Cesaro

Move #3 (by Dave “D.P.” Podnar)
DELETE Tommaso Ciampa vs. Roman Reigns and CREATE Johnny Gargano & Candice LeRae vs. Dexter Lumis vs. Indi Hartwell

Move #4 (by Sorgatron)
ADD Elias to Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Kushida

Move #5 (by The Rizz)
(*The “Wheel Of NXT UK” decided he must book A-Kid)
DELETE Becky Lynch vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Toni Storm and CREATE A-Kid vs. Dolph Ziggler

Round 6 is in the books, and we have FIVE newly created matches on our “undercard”

Johnny Gargano & Candice LeRae vs. Dexter Lumis vs. Indi Hartwell
(Created by Dave “D.P.” Podnar)

A-Kid vs. Dolph Ziggler
(Created by The Rizz)

“THE DEMON” Finn Balor vs. Aleister Black vs. Karrion Kross vs. Damien Priest
(Created by Brandon)

Keith Lee vs. Pete Dunne vs. Cesaro
(Created by Mad Mike)

Kushida vs. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Elias
(Created by Sorgatron)

Here are the three matches that survived the round without being altered in any way.

Bray Wyatt & Alexa Bliss vs. Johnny Mundo & Taya vs. Bad Bunny & Bayley
(Created by Alex Kahrs)
(*Designated as “cinematic match”)

Adam Cole vs. Daniel Bryan
(Created by HEEL Bradley)

Big E vs. Bronson Reed
(Created by Tina Keys)

Mad Mike will be back next week under the “Alex Kahrs Rule”, which governs a match that does not survive the round in which it was created.

Keep following along to find out what happens next. Thanks for supporting Mayhem Mania!

Mayhem Mania 2019: Patreon In The Bank!

This. is. Mayhem Mania!

Not quite a game. Not really a contest. More like a competitive thought experiment. The object is to create the best WrestleMania card possible – NOT necessarily to predict what WWE will do.

This is not fantasy booking. It’s more like reality booking. Any match created must have at least a chance of happening in this year’s WrestleMania. That means all wrestlers come in their current physical, emotional and contractual state. Anyone selected for a match must have a reasonable chance of being hired by WWE to appear on the real-life WrestleMania card.

Simply put, you’re Vince McMahon with infinite cash and no self-control.

For those of you who are just joining us (and honestly, where have you been?), here’s where you can catch up on Mayhem Mania 2019: Opening Round – Round 1 – Round 2 – Round 3 – Round 4 – Round 5 – Round 6 – Round 7 – Round 8

This is it – the grand finale of Mayhem Mania 2019: The awesome and life-affirming Patreon In The Bank round. It went down on the Wrestling Mayhem Show on Tuesday, March 26. Only Patreon supporters of the Wrestling Mayhem Show were invited to take part. That meant a full dozen players were lined up to decide the fate of the Mayhem Mania SUPERCARD!  (more…)
