Our Favorite Matches Of The Pandemic Era

July 2021 is a big month for professional wrestling. WWE and AEW are returning to live touring. Impact Wrestling and Ring Of Honor are welcoming back live fans for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Somehow, professional wrestling survived more than a year of uncertainty, lockdowns and empty arenas.

The Wrestling Mayhem Show wanted to celebrate the wrestlers and the other creative minds who helped us get through the past year and a half. Here are some favorite matches of our hosts, guests and listeners from the “Pandemic Era” – the period of time that began in the middle of March 2020 and stretched into July 2021.

Mayhem Mania 2018: Week 4

This. is. Mayhem Mania!

Not quite a game. Not really a contest. More like a competitive thought experiment. The object is to create the best WrestleMania card possible – NOT necessarily to predict what WWE will do.

This is not fantasy booking. It’s more like reality booking. Any match created must have at least a chance of happening in this year’s WrestleMania. That means all wrestlers come in their current physical, emotional and contractual state. Anyone selected for a match must have a reasonable chance of being hired by WWE to appear on the real-life WrestleMania card.

Simply put, you’re Vince McMahon with infinite cash and no self-control.

Catch up with Mayhem Mania 2018: Week 1 – Week 2 – Week 3

Before we get into what’s happened, I must mention what’s coming next. We’ll be doing a special Viewer’s Choice move in our next round and instead of using fate to randomly choose which of your moves to use, we’ll be adding some skill into the mix with the ELIMINATION CHAMBER CHALLENGE!

Here’ how it works: When you send in your move, also give us your prediction for who will win Sunday’s men’s Elimination Chamber match and total time for the match (the tiebreaker will be decided by whoever came the closest without going over). We’ll reward the correct prediction by using your move in next week’s round. What a deal!

We had two players back for Week 4 of Mayhem Mania 2018 under the “Alex Kahrs Rule”, Kyle Turner andBobbyfjtown. All of our players can each make a single change to the card. They have three options.

1. SWAP a wrestler/tag team for one already on the card, or bring for a name not currently on the card.
2. ADD an unused wrestler/tag team to an existing match.
3. KILL a match AND CREATE an entirely new match with wrestlers not currently on the card.

Here’s how things shook out on Episode 608 of the Wrestling Mayhem Show.

Welcome to Week 2 of Mayhem Mania. Last week, we created the eight matches that make up the framework for our card of incredible matches. Now, the real fun begins. On Episode 606 of the Wrestling Mayhem Show, five players were invited to each make a single change to the card. They had three options.

1. SWAP a wrestler/tag team for one already on the card, or bring for a name not currently on the card.
2. ADD an unused wrestler/tag team to an existing match.
3. KILL a match AND CREATE an entirely new match with wrestlers not currently on the card.

There were some, let’s say interesting, things in wrestling this week! Sorg, Chad the Shad, and Bobby F J-Town are joined by the incomparable The Gavel David Lawless, Esq. for Wrestling Mayhem Show 569 to talk what’s happening, including:

  • Breaking news from Bobby: Sand is hot.
  • Wrestling happened. We’re starting out with some X-Pac talk.
  • David Lawless is sharing his legal expertise on the X-Pac charges.
  • We’re learning a ton of stuff from this week’s guest David Lawless.
  • We’re learning just how connected Pittsburgh is in wrestling.
  • We’re moving from law to real estate. We promise this IS a wrestling podcast.
  • WMS is putting together a new Kickstarter to raise funds to purchase THE House of Horrors.
  • House of Horrors is pretty much what Sawtooth Willie’s house would be like if he didn’t live in the underground.
  • We’re doing some math about Payback and daylight hours.
  • House of Horrors had some disconnect. We’re sharing our thoughts.
  • Uber, how did Randy Orton get from House of Horrors so quickly? Was the driver able to find him easily?
  • Aside from House of Horrors, we’re talking about the rest of Payback.
  • We’re seeing WWE giving some great opportunities to people who otherwise may not have much push with the shake up.
  • WWE is jam-packed with talent and it’s a matter of sustaining the entertainment. Shake up is a way to do that.
  • The WWE backstage segments are fun again, guys!
  • In case anyone missed it, David Otunga is off filming a movie.
  • Did anyone catch the RAW Wrap Up with Mad Mike and “Sorg” last night?
  • Chris LeRusso and David Lawless have a few things in common.
  • WWE Network will be more than it has been. We’re talking some options.
  • In Nigel’s defense, he is surrounded by many ROH names on NXT.
  • We’re talking character development of Roderick Strong.
  • Sheamus and Cesaro are doing well together, but need to be more cohesive as a tag team.
  • Sheamus and Cesaro can combine a reverse atomic drop into a brogue kick! (Thanks John Ashbaugh from chat.)
  • It’s this week’s Big Question: Who would you have call the upcoming Women’s Tournament? (Thanks Tina Keys)
  • Is WWE angling for a Women’s Show?
  • The Mid Week War is pretty much WWE against itself. So. Much. Wrestling.
  • What happened to referees playing a prominent role in wrestling?
  • We’re recapping the history of Tye Dillinger in WWE.
  • Billy Corgan is getting back into wrestling, guys!
  • NWA has an on-demand service? I know what some of us are doing after the show.
  • Dab Elbow v Jackson 5. Yes, there is usually some sort of conversation that comes from our chat room.
  • We may have learned a lot today – but, what did YOU learn in wrestling this week?

WWE RAW Wrap Up 9/20/16: Steel Cage of Emotions

The crew talks WWE RAW shortly after it goes off air. The guys are excited about the Cruiserweight Division with Cedric Alexander, Rich Swann, Brian Kendrik and Gran Metalik debuting. But where was TJ Perkins other than the Pre Show? We talk the cage match between Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns, some cage logic, and Rusev vs Seth Rollins. Dana Brooke is doing great things on the side as Bayley vs Sasha Banks vs Charlotte gets real, we are amazed at the 10 man tag (The New Day, Sami Zayn, Enzo & Cass vs Chris Jericho, Shining Stars and Anderson and Gallows) and the blue phone to call Teddy Long to make it happen, and the Best of Series that will never end of Cesaro vs Shemus.
