Mayhem Mania 2019: Round 5

This. is. Mayhem Mania!

Not quite a game. Not really a contest. More like a competitive thought experiment. The object is to create the best WrestleMania card possible – NOT necessarily to predict what WWE will do.

This is not fantasy booking. It’s more like reality booking. Any match created must have at least a chance of happening in this year’s WrestleMania. That means all wrestlers come in their current physical, emotional and contractual state. Anyone selected for a match must have a reasonable chance of being hired by WWE to appear on the real-life WrestleMania card.

Simply put, you’re Vince McMahon with infinite cash and no self-control.

For those of you who are just joining us, here’s where you can catch up on Mayhem Mania 2019: Opening Round – Round 1 – Round 2 – Round 3 – Round 4

Round 5 of Mayhem Mania 2019 was held during the Wrestling Mayhem Show on Tuesday, February 26. 5 people were invited to each make a single change to our existing 8 matches on our “undercard”. Any match that survives 3 rounds without being altered in any way GRADUATES to our SUPERCARD. So far, one match has earned this distinction. (more…)

Six Times When Mayhem Mania Got Real

Can you believe we’re about to enjoy the fifth year of Mayhem Mania? Our little competitive thought experiment started out as just an idea. Over the years, it’s grown into a tradition on the Wrestling Mayhem Show. There have been a lot of matches created over the years – some more plausible than others. Among them are a select few that later happened in real life. Here are six of the most notable. To be clear, we’re only looking at matches that graduated to a Mayhem Mania SUPERCARD. (more…)

Let’s get right to it so you can start rocking 2022!

Why Do We Suck At Building Healthy Habits?

Human hand holding crumpled paper or trash and white paper ball and waste on the floor, A hand are crumpling a paper

“I know what I’m supposed to do, I just can’t get myself to do it!”

Welcome to the club – we all know what we need to do, but we just can’t get ourselves to make the important changes.

We know how to get in shape: move more and eat less!

We know how to exercise: get your heart rate up, do some push-ups, get stronger.

We know how to eat healthy: more vegetables and less sugar.

And yet, we can’t get ourselves to stick with ANY of these things for longer than a few weeks.

Why?

Simple: Building new healthy habits is tough, our lizard brains crave instant gratification, we don’t fully understand how habits are built, life gets busy, and our default behavior is often as unhealthy as it is easy.

As a result, we don’t put the right systems in place in order to make changes stick.

We also rely wayyyyy too much on willpower and motivation.

We tend to bite off more than we can chew, go too fast too soon, and then get overwhelmed too quickly.

This reaction is priceless.

Does this sound familiar?

  • I’m going to eat 100% Paleo/Keto AND
  • I’m going to run 5 miles a day AND
  • I’m going to work out in a gym five times a week.

If you’re somebody that eats a typically poor diet, never runs, and hasn’t set foot in a gym since grade-school dodgeball with Mr. Wazowski, changing alllll of these at once is almost a surefire way to succeed at precisely NONE of them.

We’re conditioned these days to expect and receive instant gratification. If we want food we can get it from a drive-through, stick a frozen meal in a microwave, or sit down at a restaurant that’s open 24 hours. If we want a game we can download it to our computers/phones/PS5s within a matter of seconds. If we want to watch a TV show, it’s a few clicks away.

Hell, Netflix even starts the next episode for you without any action required!

George binging some TV

We expect getting in shape to go the same way.

And this is why we suck at building healthy habits that stick.

We tell ourselves “Hey, I’ve been dedicated for a whole two weeks, why don’t I look like Ryan Reynolds yet?”, not remembering that it took us decades of unhealthy living to get where we are, which means it’s going to take more than a few weeks to reverse the trend.

And then we miss a workout because life was busy or our kid got sick. And we get disheartened that exercise or giving up candy is not nearly as fun as Netflix and video games and Peanut M&M’s.

This is where everybody gives up:

  • They try to change too many habits too soon
  • They get impatient the results don’t come more quickly
  • They slip up when life gets busy

Many weeks ago, we started our journey by creating 8 matches for our card. Then, we started making changes…and more changes…and even more changes. It wasn’t always pretty. Here’s where you can catch up on what happened during Round 1Round 2Round 3Round 4Round 5Round 6Round 7 and Round 8. Any match that survived 3 rounds of Mayhem Mania without being altered in any way, GRADUATED to the SUPERCARD, creating room for new and even more fantastic match ideas. This process led to three graduated matches.

All this hard work and hurt feelings led to the epic Patreon In The Bank round of Mayhem Mania, in which the Patreon supporters of the Wrestling Mayhem Show were invited to make multiple changes, fast-track matches to the SUPERCARD and much more. (more…)

Wrestling Mayhem Show 559: Strowman Reigns

We’ve got a couch (both in studio and on the internets) full of our WMS stable, including Mad Mike, Bobby F J-Town, Sorg, Mutilator Larry, Rizz, Mainstream Matt, and Hotwheelz for Wrestling Mayhem Show 559.  Of course, we talked what’s happening in the world of wrestling this week, including:

  • Wrestling took a hit this past week with the passing of a few historical greats.
  • Getting into RAW this week, we’re digging the big brawler match with Braun Strowman and The Big Show.
  • John Cena eliminated! We’re liking it.
  • Getting back to The Big Show, we’re still amazed at his weight loss. Kudos!
  • Brock Lesnar staring into the camera made the perfect meme opportunity. (Share your memes with us!)
  • We learned CM Punk is on The Rock’s speed dial this week.
  • For those of us without TV, how are we watching wrestling?
  • Rizz is sharing some Chikaratopia love.
  • If you create a Jaxon Argos wrestling character, Rizz will play it on Rizz Plays Games!
  • We’re swapping things up this week! It’s time for the Big Question: What should The New Day do at Wrestlemania?
  • Supplemental Big Question: If The New Day is recast, who do you want to host Wrestlemania?
  • While Mainstream Matt works up the Mayhem Mania big board Mad Mike is talking comic books.
  • It’s time for Mayhem Mania!
  • What did YOU learn in wrestling this week?
